Characteristics and identification of Tourmaline and Topaz

The first part of the webinar will give an overview of the various types of tourmalines and their treatments. Special emphasis will be given to Paraiba tourmaline, as this is the only one where an origin determination can be made. Synthetic tourmaline of gem quality is not known, but some imitations do exist. These will also be covered in this webinar, followed by a short practical session.
When discussing topaz, one generally thinks of the blue variety which, in most cases, is irradiated to receive its colour. However, there is natural blue topaz, and topaz also comes in other colours than blue. The webinar will give an overview of the topaz varieties and their treatments, followed by a short practical session.
