Description

Tourmaline surpasses all other gemstones by its wide range of colours. At the end of the 1980s, unusual vivid blue and green elbaite tourmalines from the Paraíba State in northeastern Brazil generated major interest in the gem trade due to the discovery of new colours that had never been seen before in this gemstone species.

Dr. Claudio C. Milisenda is director of DSEF lab, and has been with the German Gemmological Association (DGemG) and its gemmological laboratory since 1993. In 1996, he became director of the DSEF German Gem Lab (German Foundation for Gemstone Research), which was founded in 1969. Milisenda has authored or co-authored articles on mineralogy, geology, geochemistry and gemmology in many magazines and journals world wide.
